Blue Badge Access to York City Centre

The statements below were published by YHRCN and the CYC Human Rights and Equalities Board in 2021 regarding the issues of Blue Badge access to York City Centre.  The permanent ban on disabled people being allowed to enter large parts of the city centre at specific times that was introduced in October 2021 was lifted by the new Council administration in autumn 2023.  The first BB holders were allowed to enter the footstreets again on 4th January 2024 through one entry and exit point with a second planned for Easter.  A wider consultation was also launched on a draft York Local Transport Strategy in November 2023.  See also our section on ‘Reverse the Ban’ – the coalition of which we are a member – under Current Work and visit the Reverse the Ban website.
