Annual Meeting of York Human Rights City Network
December 9, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmFREE but booking required - see entry for details
Invitation to a public meeting from 6-8pm on 9th December 2021, to discuss preliminary findings for the York Human Rights City Network (YHRCN) Indicator Report for 2021 and the work of YHRCN.
Please share in your networks – open to all!
It has been a challenging year. We began 2021 in COVID-related lockdown and ended the year mired in controversy about Blue Badge access to the city centre. The year has provided both significant evidence of the value of applying the human rights framework to challenges in the city, but also raised questions about how to get this vision implemented in reality and what it means for York to label itself a ‘human rights city’.
In this context, we are hosting an online meeting on Thursday 9th December, from 6-8pm. The meeting will serve three functions:
First, the YHRCN will present and discuss draft findings for the 2021 report, focusing on our five priority rights (equality and non-discrimination, education, decent standard of living, housing, health and social care). This is a return to the format of the 2019 report, after we decided to focus on COVID-19 and its implications for human rights last year.
Finally, we are keen to reflect on the ‘human rights city’ label in the context of events this year: What are the implications of diverging interpretations of the label? How do we respond to setbacks and challenges? How can we deliver better on the promise and intent of being a ‘human rights city’?
Please register for this online event through Eventbrite and circulate this notice to your networks. NOTE: This event will have a BSL interpreter and use zoom automated captions
We look forward to seeing you on 9th December.
