Community-led economic development on York Central

August 2, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

York Central is the large piece of land between the railway station and Water End. A partnership of City of York Council, Network Rail, the National Railway Museum and Homes England is developing the site for housing and commercial space. To help develop the plans, a public engagement process called My York Central was undertaken in March and April, leading to a Vision, a summary Big Ideas and Principles. We are now exploring the ideas in more depth through a series of events. All very welcome.

6:00pm – 8:00pm Thursday 2nd August

One of the “Big Ideas” which came out of the community engagement through the Festival of York Central was the proposal for “a community made through exchange”. How can we create a part of the city where people use their capital – skills, time, money – to invest in the people, places and buildings which bring life to their streets and neighbourhood? How can we build in connections which make that process of exchange more fertile and rewarding for all? And what can we learn from successful initiatives elsewhere, where people have joined together to create more vibrant communities?
This will be a workshop session with talks by a number of people who can bring expertise and practical experience to the discussion, who will also be there to facilitate debate and help us finish with concrete next steps which we can take together.

Guests will include:-
Richard Norton – Headingley Development Trust and HEART
Imelda Havers – Blue Fish Regeneration / Red Tower Project
Mora Scaife – City of York Council
