Cycle to Freedom: To York and Beyond
October 17 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pmFree
About this event
A social cycle ride with Empowered People for both able-bodied and disabled cyclists. The morning ride will depart Cycle Heaven on Hospital Fields Road at 10am and head out into the countryside for a 28km ride down to Acaster Selby, using cycle paths and quiet lanes. Then after lunch (bring sandwiches or buy something at Cycle Heaven cafe) riders will do a loop of around 12km (with an option to shorten it to around 8km) through the city, passing York’s magnificent Minster. Riders are welcome to do just the morning or afternoon ride if the full day feels like too much.
Empowered People will provide support for the ride, and any disabled riders will be teamed up with at least one dedicated support-rider. Please bring a water bottle for the ride and suitable clothing for the weather. Unfortunately we are unable to take children under the age of 16 on this ride. Please note cycle helmets and high vis are required for all riders on this ride, to meet the conditions of Empowered People’s insurance policy.
Get Cycling have a limited number of cycles available to hire, including some adapted cycles and e-cycles. Please contact them directly if you need to hire a cycle.
Please sign up here if you are a competent and able-bodied cyclist.
If you think you might be able to support a disabled rider for the ride then please sign up here and contact Jamie Wood: email@example.com
If you are a disabled rider please don’t sign up here, but instead contact Jamie Wood: firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your needs.
Free event, donations to Empowered People gratefully appreciated.
*Please note that York Marathan is on the same day but we have planned our routes so as not to overlap with marathon runners!
