Does Tech Discriminate?

March 25, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 8:45 pm

Free

Are we in danger of ingraining deep-seated prejudices into the technology we use on a daily basis? Our panel, chaired by The Gadget Show presenter Ortis Deley, will discus in this online event.

This event is part of Open Talk – a new series of online talks – that will connect you with an international line up of cultural figures, scientists, authors and policy makers exploring themes including race and identity, unconscious bias in tech and inequality in STEM.

On Thursday 25 March, ‘Does Tech Discriminate’ will explore how technology can amplify discrimination, including facial recognition systems, online search algorithms and social media echo chambers. As machine learning and AI systems become more advanced, how do we ensure they are free of their curators’ prejudices? How can we create technology that works for everyone?
