Domestic Abuse & Economic Abuse: 16 days of Action

December 1 | 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm

Join IDAS, New Beginnings Peer Support & Surviving Economic Abuse to discuss economic abuse and the cost-of-living crisis.

Sarah Hill, CEO of IDAS will be joined by a survivor of Economic Abuse whose ex-partner took out multiple loans in her name, forced her to work 60–70-hour weeks, resuming this gruelling schedule immediately after giving birth to their son. After fleeing, the debt her ex-partner had racked up resulted in her ultimately having to file for bankruptcy and being left with nothing. This free webinar is part of our 16 days of action series, raising awareness of different types of abuse and the actions we can all take to prevent violence and abuse.

Economic Abuse has been recognised in the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 statutory definition of domestic abuse, however understanding of this type of abuse is limited. The Cost-of Living Crisis threatens to trap people with their abusive partners making it almost impossible to leave. We join colleagues from the sector to talk about the issues and the actions that can be taken to keep people safe.
