DESCRIPTION: Monica Mayer’s ‘El Tendedero/The Clothesline Project’ (1978), asked people in Mexico City to discuss their experiences of sexual harassment and pegged their words or images on a clothesline, to elevate people’s voices. This gained global resurgence, being used as a public visual intervention to forge communities and raise awareness of the impact of sexual harassment in schools, hospitals, universities and churches, from Germany to Japan – and now York. A recording of Monica Mayer discussing her work will also be available.
