Human Rights Education in Science Classes
August 5, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FreeAre you a science teacher who is interested in teaching students to reflect beyond course content and lab practices to understand the impact of societal issues and human rights within scientific research?
Please join RFK Human Rights and Speak Truth to Power Lead Educator, Stephanie Thliveris, to explore the intersections between scientific thought and social issues, along with the importance of applying concepts and practice through a lens of human rights. Stephanie will also share her experience as a scientist and teacher and explore social influences that guide the framework of scientific exploration. She will also introduce how stories of human rights defenders might be used in science classrooms.
Stephanie Thliveris teaches Science and Sustainability and serves as a Mindfulness instructor at the Buckingham Friends School in Lahaska, Pennsylvania.
