Journeys into sport

March 14, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

International Women’s Day event

Last year Beth Moulam and Mo Onyett founded the York RaceRunning club based at the University track.  RaceRunning is an innovative sport for disabled people with impaired balance using custom-built tricycles without pedals and providing participants with the experience and feeling of running.

Beth and Mo will share their RaceRunning stories and Beth will also cover her involvement in Boccia.

Mo uses a powered wheelchair to get around due to a debilitating connective tissue disorder. After several years of not being able to exercise at all, she discovered the joy of RaceRunning. Just a few months into training, in 2018, she began competing in track and road races, running distances of up to 10km. Her ultimate goal is to run a marathon, but that’s a challenge for next year!

Beth will share the ups and downs of her journey from having little opportunity to take part in PE at mainstream school through to juggling competitive sport and study.

From the age of 10 Beth has dreamed of a Paralympic Gold and she combines her studies at the University of York with 2 elite sports; Boccia and RaceRunning.  Beth competes Internationally in RaceRunning and is currently ranked in her classification as number 1 in the UK.

Beth has always been passionate about sport and upon arriving in York, she set-up Jorvik Boccia, for players of all abilities. Boccia is a strategic ball game and Beth uses a ramp and has an assistant who sits with her back to the game who moves the ramp under direction.

Beth recently began training with the UK Boccia Federation and hopes to be selected to represent Great Britain in Tokyo.
