Peter Morrall Summer 18

Thursday 3 May 2018, 7.00pm

Speaker: Dr Peter Morrall, Centre for Lifelong Learning

Lifelong Learning Lectures

Throughout history and across cultures the ‘mad’ have been separated from the ‘normal’, and today there is a huge rise in the diagnosis of mental illness/disorder globally.  But, there have been and are many different ideas about madness.  To examine the question ‘what is madness?’ ideas from psychiatry and the social sciences will be applied to the autobiographical stories of those considered mad in the past and in the present. These include a 19th century French mass-murderer, and Stephen Fry.
