Peace Vigil at York Minster

There will be a YORK PEACE VIGIL at York Minster on Saturday 11th November 2023 concerning the war in Israel/Gaza. It is OPEN TO ALL.

Doors will open at 6.30pm, with the event commencing with short speeches at 6.45pm.   The event will take no more than an hour.

The event will commence with a welcome from the Dean of York Minster followed by a small number of short two-minute speeches calling for peace, from faith, political and civic leaders, including a representative from York Human Rights City Network. This part of the programme will last no more than 20 minutes.

The event will then move on to people bringing their pleas, petitions and prayers to lay at the front of York Minister on white paper. They will lay these within the boundaries of a dove which has been marked out where the alter normally is. People will also be able to light a candle in the Minster, if they wish, before returning to their place or leaving the Minster.
