Revising Pevsner

February 20 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Yarburgh Lecture

Jane Grenville, our former DVC, has the happy task of revising the North Riding volume of Professor Sir Nikolaus Pevsner’s iconic series of 46 books The Buildings of England. She will talk about Pevsner, a German Jewish refugee architectural historian, his original project and the delights of her own work on the revised volume.

About the speaker

Jane Grenville

Jane’s career began a member of the Listed Buildings Re-Survey Team in Yorkshire in the mid 1980s. She went on to work in historic buildings conservation until she joined the University’s Archaeology Department in 1991, where she taught medieval archaeology, heritage management and archaeology of buildings. She was Head of Department 2001-6, PVC for Students 2007-15 and DVC between 2012 and 2015. In retirement she has returned to her first stamping ground and now, as then, is travelling the highways and byways of the North Riding, looking at lovely buildings and writing about them.
