The Right to Protest: Under threat from Azerbaijan to the UK

January 16, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Mehriban Rahimli, a human rights defender from Azerbaijan and Peter Allen, a member of Frack Free Ryedale, will lead a discussion on the right to protest and what it means

The law provides for the freedom of assembly and right to protest in both Azerbaijan and the UK. Authorities in Azerbaijan often respond to peaceful protests with force and imprisoning protesters. In recent months in the UK many anti-fracking protesters have been arrested. Last month a multinational energy company secured a long-term, sweeping injunction against anti-fracking protesters despite critics calling it “draconian and anti-democratic”.
