Routes to Recovery: For women after trauma
June 14 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pmfree
After experiencing trauma, what support do women want and need to recover?
At the Kyra Women’s Project in York, our Route to Recovery project supports and empowers women to rebuild their lives after domestic abuse or mental ill health. You’ll learn how we adjust our approach, carefully respond to her needs, and above all, aim to do no further harm. We recognise and build on her strengths, while helping her retain her sense of choice and control; we walk alongside her on this journey, but she chooses her own route.
Kyra is run by women, for women. Through our holistic, non-medical approach we empower women to make positive change. We help our members deal with crises, change and barriers in their lives, and give them the space and support they need to understand their thinking and behaviour, explore alternative ways of being, and address emotional and practical issues.
Designed collaboratively with our members, our project helps guide them from a place where they might have disengaged and feel worthless with nothing to offer, to a place of confidence, able to fulfil their potential, build better relationships and know they have something to give back to their community.
This conversation brings together Anna Perrett, who runs the Routes to Recovery project, and Jules Wyman, the project’s confidence coach. Together, they will introduce you to the project, explain how it can be the next step for women after they have left abusive relationships, and present case studies of how women have moved on, considering all confidentiality issues, of course.
This event will take place live on Zoom Webinar. You’ll receive a link to join a couple of days before the event takes place and a reminder an hour before. During the event, you can ask questions via a Q&A function, but audience cameras and microphones will remain muted throughout.

The Kyra Women’s Project
The Kyra Women’s Project is a registered charity in York that exists to help local women make positive change in their lives. They offer a range of courses, therapies, life skills and events run by women for women, providing encouragement, companionship, information, training and, importantly, a sense of belonging. Founded in 2013, the Kyra Women’s Project was the brainchild of Yvonne Copley. Yvonne was aware that after any intervention or when people are feeling vulnerable and alone, there is a need for support. Through research and after meeting with a range of organisations in York, she learned that many women had to wait a considerable length of time to receive the specialist intervention and support they desperately needed. This occurred at a time when they were vulnerable, often isolated and at risk of making poor decisions. In addition, a lack of support following formal specialist treatments diminished the effectiveness of the primary intervention and outcomes.
