ALSO – OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE YOUR SAY THROUGH AN ONLINE OR FACE TO FACE INTERVIEW LOCALLY

This is part of a research/development project on ” Do we need Human Rights to Social Care?” run by innovator group at the Institute for Health and Social Care Management.  Dr Mervyn Eastman. Dr Caroline Green and Rachel Barber set up a group called “Power and Rights” because of seeing and hearing of the power imbalance between professionals and clients and wondering whether human rights to social care would help address this imbalance.

The team are hoping to create two films – a short and a longer one – to capture different stories and opinions from different people working and experiencing social care services and influence service commissioners.  They believe that the English government has been in regression in ensuring that the rights and freedoms of people using social care are respected. They are keen to explore whether there is a need for the United Nations to include a human right to social care into their catalogue of human rights and freedoms.

To date, the team has run five workshops with Christopher Green, the theatre artist, who has facilitated some excellent discussions.  Many of the participants to date have been professionals, some of whom had personal stories.

They are now seeking individuals and groups who have experienced social care so that their voices can be heard – either through written accounts, pictures, or through interviews by phone, video or face to face and will accommodate different needs. Participants will be offered a ‘love to shop’ voucher (£20 per hour), which can be used across many different high street shops.  The stories will be collected up to mid May and the film produced sometime in June.
