Speaker: Dr Iona Heath, former President of the Royal College of General Practitioners

Annual John Snow Lecture

In the context of the grotesque use of Gross Negligence Manslaughter convictions to discipline healthcare professionals known to be working in a deliberately underfunded and so severely overstretched service, Iona wants to explore how the fears of professionals harm patients.  What more needs to be done to protect both patients and professionals? All of us make mistakes, healthcare is a risky undertaking and no patient can be guaranteed a good outcome in all circumstances. We need to stop pretending that there is a clear and obvious correct course of action in all situations, and that all disasters can be prevented.

Tea/coffee will be served from 5.45pm ahead of the event.

Location: Bowland Auditorium, Berrick Saul Building
