“The Humanist case against Patriotism” with David Mountain

April 6, 2021 @ 7:30 pm

FREE but booking required

Patriotism may be one of the most common and widely praised beliefs in the world. And yet there are serious problems with it. In this talk David Mountain will make the humanist case against patriotism, arguing that humanists should reject national pride for many of the same reasons we reject religion. Like religion, he argues that patriotism is illogical, dangerous and unnecessary, and we would all be better off without it.

David is an Edinburgh-based writer and editor with a focus on history, politics and science. His debut book, Past Mistakes: How We Misinterpret History and Why it Matters, was published in 2020.
