VCSE Training – Bystander Intervention and Tackling Hate Crime
April 26, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
freeAbout this event
About the Workshop
This workshop is aimed at empowering people to tackle hate. It is designed to help you challenge discrimination and to help others to support victims of hate. It is suitable for anyone that wants to support people affected by hate and hostility in their communities, neighbourhoods and workplaces.
From the workshop you will gain an understanding of the different levels of hate and improve your awareness of the bystander effect/why people do not intervene. You will increase your knowledge of the range of interventions that can be made, which we hope will provide you with the confidence to make an intervention that you feel comfortable with, therefore increasing the likelihood that you will intervene.
This free training has been made possible by the Stand By Me project working in conjunction with York CVS and York Disability Rights Forum.
Meet the Trainer:
Shamsher Chohan is the Creative Director at Communities Inc and has been developing and delivering bystander intervention programmes for the last 5 years.
Stand by Me UK is a Communities Inc project that empowers people to assist victims of bullying, harassment or hate through safe bystander interventions. Through this project they train people in England, Scotland, and Wales so that no one has to suffer from hatred anymore. They have received grant support from Google.org.
