About the Workshop
The session will offer you an introduction or refresher in skills and information for brief advice conversations about alcohol. It is delivered by Anna Brown from the Public Health team at City of York Council. It’s an important topic for anyone involved with staff, volunteers or clients.
Training content
The training will cover:
- Why conversations about alcohol are needed in York
- Reminder of alcohol health guidelines, alcohol units, the AUDIT questionnaire
- Using motivational interviewing techniques for collaborative conversations about alcohol
- Relevant support services in York for individuals and their families
The session will include some time to practice motivational interviewing techniques and for participants to share ideas about integrating learning into everyday practice.

The training will be provided by Anna Brown from the Public Health team at City of York Council.
Eligibility
The training is free and open to organisations and individuals working or volunteering in York.
