VCSE Training – Putting human rights into practice
July 4, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
A free training session for voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations operating in York (United Kingdom).
About this event
About the Workshop
York CVS is hosting a small number training sessions titled ‘Putting Human Rights into Action’. This first session will be led by staff from the Centre for Applied Human Rights (CAHR), University of York. It will take place on Monday 4 July, from 12.45-2.45pm. Lunch will be provided from 12.15pm.
Training content
The focus of the training will be exploring ways of putting human rights into practice for VCSEs. Relevant frameworks will be covered – such as the Human Rights Act and PANEL principles (participation, accountability, non-discrimination, empowerment, and the law) – but with a focus on concrete cases and examples. Cases and examples will be taken from York and other cities and local settings in the UK. The aim is to support organisations in York to use human rights in their everyday activities, such as programming, advocacy and litigation. The implications of York becoming the UK’s first human rights city in 2017 will also be covered.
The speakers
The training will be provided by Paul Gready and Piergiuseppe Parisi from CAHR (The Centre of Applied Human Rights). To make the training as relevant as possible, we are asking those attending to send Jane Granville (below) examples of human rights-related issues that they would like the training to address. We will attempt to cover as many of these as we can at the training. You can send suggestions of topics for the training as well.
Eligibility
The training is free and open to organisations and individuals working on social justice issues in York.
