WHAT ARE THE PRIORITIES FOR THE WOMEN OF YORK? Findings from a survey. And a short film – Suffragette Centenary

March 16, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

York Women’s Forum

Invite you to come and hear the findings of a survey into

In the autumn York Women’s Forum teamed up with York Human Rights City Network and postgraduate human rights and law students from the University of York to try and better understand the priorities facing women in York. The students conducted a survey in November and December in the street, outside supermarkets, at local women’s organisations and through other routes to reach a wide range of people whose views are not normally heard.  The survey was also available online.  Almost 300 responses were received from a wide range of women and men.

This is the first chance to hear what the survey found, direct from the students themselves. And your chance to influence how York Women’s Forum makes use of these findings to press for improved attention to women’s priorities for the city.

There will also be a showing of a short film that one of our members, Viv Nicholls, has made.  Viv and her work colleagues got inspired by the history of the suffragette movement during the 2018 centenary year.  They are now determined to make the grave of York’s famous suffragette, Annie Seymour Pearson, in York Cemetery a fitting tribute to the movement. York Minster have pledged to provide the stone.  She will give us an update on their campaign.
Come and join us for this FREE event (light refreshments available)

The venue: St Olave’s Hall is close to the Marygate long stay car park towards the bottom of Marygate, close to the river path and the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey, and a short walk from the city centre. It is wheelchair accessible but we regret there is no hearing loop.
