Whose Honour? York International Women’s Week

March 5, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The concept of honour in relation to a female’s sexuality is an alien concept for many; however, it can become a question of life or death. Even before birth, limitations are imposed on women and girls and which continue throughout their lives, often with terrible consequences for those who dare to challenge unacceptable patriarchal norms and practices. This workshop is open to all, and aims to raise awareness of the specific issues related to honour killings and honour violence. It focuses on who are the owners of “honour” and who are the maintainers. Highly interactive, this workshop will challenge stereotypes, and dispel the myths surrounding this abuse.
