York Community Energy AGM and Guest Speakers

October 10, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

FREE
York Community Energy say: you are all warmly invited to attend our Annual General Meeting, taking place on Tuesday October 10th at the Friends Meeting House on Friargate, YO1 9RL.
This will follow the same format as last year’s, with the formal business of the AGM taking place between 7pm and 7:30: the presentation of accounts and election of officers. We would welcome anyone interested in joining our active and friendly committee. We currently have a vacant post of Vice Chair, and we would be very keen to create roles for a social media/web co-ordinator and a membership secretary. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like any more information about any of these roles.
Doors open for the event with refreshments at 6:30.
At 7:30pm we will have a series of public talks:
YCE chair Richard Lane will welcome all comers, recap YCE’s last year, and update everyone on our current plans, with – fingers crossed – some exciting news on our ongoing efforts to bring clean community energy to York!
Cllr Andrew Waller, the City of York Council Executive Member for Environment and also the Chair of One Planet York, will bring us up to speed on various projects that the Council has undertaken, many of which you may not have heard about, including electrification, battery storage and retrofitting.
Andy Hunt is a Director of Greater Manchester Community Renewables and Bury Community Hydro as well as Strategy and Partnerships Manager at Oldham Council. He will introduce us to the work of GMCR, who have 150kWp of community owned solar panels across Greater Manchester, and talk about the new innovations and projects which are emerging to give the Community Energy sector a boost.

We hope to see you there – either by 7 for the AGM or at 7:30 for the public talks.
We welcome our 100th member!
As you may have seen on social media, last week we were pleased to welcome Paul McCabe as the 100th signed up member of YCE.
Paul said: “I joined YCE because I‘d like to see a clean energy revolution and I thought a good place to start is in my own community. Climate change means the way we generate energy has to change. YCE offers an inspiring vision of community-owned renewable energy generation and I’m looking forward to being part of it.”

Paul joined at a presentation given by Kit and Ivana at a One Planet York Mingle event. If you know a group that might like to hear us talk about community energy and renewable energy, please get in touch – we love spreading the word!

Finally, Community energy supporter Tom Belcourt-Weir is conducting research into how the public engages with community energy. If you have ten minutes to spare, would you be able to answer his questionnaire? He’s particularly interested in hearing from people who have invested in community energy projects. His questionnaire can be found online here: https://goo.gl/forms/nVpAUePOlrfS4iV22
Hope to see you on the 10th.
Richard, Libby, Ivana, Alan and Tom.
