York Racial Equality Network – the Friendship (Amity) Network

September 28, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

FREE

Following a successful bid to the Big Lottery, York Race Equality Network (YREN) provides regular monthly community activities aimed at people from all communities and ages, with the aim of reducing social isolation and providing a constructive, safe and supportive environment in which people can develop new friendships and build links to the wider York community.  Although open to all, the project particularly aims to benefit older BME people and those new to the City of York, including refugees, for whom social exclusion and loneliness are known to be a particular problem.

The project will provide a place where participants can make social contacts and build new friendships and networks.  Project activities will be based on participants’ needs and interests, with a strong focus on sharing and valuing the skills and experiences that different individuals bring to the group.

Participants will be encouraged to contribute to shaping the programme through shared planning and activities sessions.  We also need volunteers to help out on a regular basis.

Activities are from 2 to 4pm, with YREN representatives there from 12.30.  You can also take advantage of YREN’s outreach and partnership work with Your Cafe who provide quality, healthy meals, tea and coffee on a PayAsYouFeel basis.
