Fairtrade Fortnight lasts from 25 February to 10 March and the theme this year is "She Deserves a Living Wage". The campaign focuses on women cocoa farmers and the difference a living income can make in their lives.

The CEO of The Fairtrade Foundation, Mike Gidney will be attending this event, which includes free tea, coffee, juice and breakfast for all attendees and is a great opportunity to find out more about Fairtrade in York.

Tasting Eswatini jams, marmalade and chutney made in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland). All these products are made from fruit and vegetables locally grown by members of the Woman Farmer Foundation, an organisation of 2,000 women farmers providing a sustainable livelihood through agriculture for rural women, challenging the situation of women in African societies being generally sidelined in community development and decision making. Andrei Paluda, a death penalty abolition campaigner, will talk about the procedures of executing people in Belarus, a tradition still in place from the Soviet Union era. A film screening of “Carry Greenham Home”, with a chance for women who took part in Greenham Common protest camps to share their memories, and for everyone to discuss current campaigns against nuclear weapons. Greenham Common was an    exciting time for women’s protest. The legacy can still be seen today at the protests at nearby Menwith Hill and in the adoption of the UN Global Ban Treaty. This event is a chance to find out all about this and more. FREE, but donations welcome.
