Fairtrade Fortnight lasts from 25 February to 10 March and the theme this year is "She Deserves a Living Wage". The campaign focuses on women cocoa farmers and the difference a living income can make in their lives.

There is no such thing as a typical Kyra woman. Kyra’s event, ‘Every Woman Heard’ will give York women a chance to see the best of Kyra Women’s Project. We will give the floor to women from all walks of life; be inspired by their achievements and celebrate our work with them.  Discover activities, stalls, mini-courses, therapy tasters, talks, poetry, fabulous food and many ways to get involved and meet others in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Donations requested. International Women’s day, panel discussion

Unite the union & the Centre for Applied Human Rights at the University of York are honoured to host a panel discussion with Thabitha Khumalo Hon MP for the movement of democratic change in Zimbabwe; Prosper Tiringindi, a Human Rights Defender from Zimbabwe who campaigns for economic, social and civil rights and transparency and accountability in local government; as well as other guests to be announced. The discussion will focus on women and human rights. This is a really exciting opportunity for Unite Reps, members and anyone with an interest in global human rights. Thabitha Khumalo Hon MP for the movement of democratic change in Zimbabwe.  Thabitha was a  trade union official in Zimbabwe and  is a founder member of the Zimbabwe Movement for Democratic Change. Thabitha is a champion  on the rights of children and women as well as all those in society who are disadvantaged.   Thabitha was instrumental in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Advisory Group on HIV and AIDS and maternal, new-born and Child Health. Thabitha has previously visited the UK, campaigning with women across the trade union movement for period dignity This event is free!

Misogyny has been described as the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women - simply because they are women. It shows itself in behaviours including the belittling of women, sexual objectification, sex discrimination, and violence against women. Hear women speakers from North Yorkshire Police (the second Police Force in the country to recognize misogyny as a hate crime), IDAS, and UNISON (your legal rights) - and join us to discuss the issues we face, and how they could be better addressed. Verse Matters is an intersectional feminist arts collective based in Sheffield providing a supportive space for poetry, spoken word, story-telling, music and comedy.  To celebrate International Women’s Day, Say Owt are bringing Verse Matters to York to host a special open mic for women and non-binary people.
