Older Citizens Advocacy York

OCAY’s main aims are for older people to take control of their own lives, be more independent, to have reduced levels of poverty, to be socially included and for their voices to be heard as a basic human right. We assist people to find out what choices are available to them and to make appropriate choices, either for them as individuals or as a group. We believe that having our organisation based in the country’s first Human Rights City would be a wonderful context within which to continue our work. We believe that Human Rights are a given and raising understanding of these issues will help with building relationships within the city. The historical capital of the north becoming a Human Rights City would provide strong leadership in the country.
